1) Don’t back yourself into a corner by selecting the wall color first! Consider your overall plan, begin with drapery fabrics or rugs. Rugs & fabrics need to fit a lot of criteria: style, durability, pattern, budget, and there are thousands of paint colors that will compliment them.
2) Consider the color tone. For example, in selecting an “off white”, one quickly learns that there are many to choose from! Look for underlying tones – does it have a grey or peach cast? You probably won’t notice the underlying tone on a 1” square, but it will be painfully obvious once you paint the entire room.
3) If you bring home sample jars, I recommend you apply it to a poster board instead of the existing wall. Try to look at the new color without the current wall color next to it, since the current color can distort the way your eye perceives the new color.

4) Know that a qualified Interior designer can advise how to tweak paint, by adding drops of color, or by reducing or increasing the strength. My best clients have been the ones that spent thousands repainting their rooms several times before they found me!
