Can light color fabrics work well with a dark stone fireplace?

With daylight savings time here, we can finally enjoy light color fabrics such as the white linen drapes and light gray and ivory fabrics below!

Often people want a pop of color mixed in, which can easily be achieved through pillows, art, or even a chair like the paprika chair below.

In the "before" photo, the client's true red chair was a bit too intense for her, so we recovered it and moved it to the master suite. This new chair was a warmer tone, by avoiding any pink cast it looks great with the gray, taupe and camel tones in the fireplace stone.

For this Greensboro NC home, we made custom drapes to help draw attention to their beautiful windows and view! A little interior design assistance can go a long way because designers have access to amazing fabrics, art, rugs, lamps, and accessories.

BEFORE Below

The new rug has a nice subtle print, which the client loves. Notice we recovered her wing chairs in a lovely light fabric, and used a contrast mocha color welt.

Here's a close up of the men's wear Plaid and cinnamon pillows. This added the nice masculine touch without changing the feeling of the room. Pillows can be easily changed, they're a great way to instantly update a room!

Today's light color fabrics come in Sunbrella and other durable fabric combinations that can easily be used even if you have pets and children. The sprays that are offered actually come with 5 year guarantees!  Notice how the light color fabrics allow the beauty of the fireplace stone to stand out, unlike the busy prints from before. Fabrics and wall paints are a quick way to update a room!

Should I replace my wood bed with an upholstered bed? See inspiring before & after photos!

An upholstered headboard with white linen & drapes is a fresh change from a dark wood bed! Clients show us their "dream room" inspiration photos, and we make it happen!

Before and After bedroom below,
A bedroom should be a soothing oasis where you love to spend time! A Large upholstered headboard can be dramatic, and comfortable to lean on! And -- a new headboard can be a quick fix way to update your bedroom if you don't want to replace all the furniture in the room. It can help you avoid that "matching set" look, which you've owned for perhaps many years, and are now ready for a change!

3 ways to make a bedroom feel like a master suite!

Perhaps you want your bedroom to feel more spacious like a master suite? Or perhaps you want to add a sitting area but fear the room will seem too crowded? Often it's not the square foot size that's the problem, but rather, it can be due to the furniture being too overpowering!

1) Replace a sleigh bed or 4 poster bed with a lower profile footboard.

In this Summerfield NC home, we replaced the sleigh bed with our custom upholstered bed. The room instantly felt larger, because the tall footboard "cut off" the space.

Notice in the after photo, we added a large comfortable chair in the corner. Often by changing an overpowering bed we're able to add a long bench or a sitting area in a bedroom that would normally have seemed too crowded to be able to accommodate more furniture.

2) Use solid or subtle fabrics instead of large prints.

Whenever we replace a client's busy print fabrics with our subtle tone on tone fabrics or solid linens, they instantly comment that the room feels less "busy", cleaner, and more inviting. Prints can still be a nice addition, on the bed shams, or with decorative pillows, or through the art!

3) Remove a large armoire. (see below)

This Raleigh NC client was tired of her large armoire, we replaced it with a lovely gray chenille bench and carving.

The large armoire was overpowering.
After adding closet organization, the
client did not need this large piece.
Notice in the after - white linen
drapes are a nice update to the busy

print. Our chenille chair is a
comfortable addition!

Most popular window treatment styles for 2017!

Window treatments in 2017 are clean and simple, less formal, and best of all, they're hung outside the window so they do not block ANY daylight!

Heavy formal drapes have been replaced with light fresh styles (like light colored linen fabric shown below). Below are some before and after photos to help you visualize the impact that beautiful drapes can make in a room! Whether you like transitional, contemporary, traditional, or rustic modern, these linen custom drapery panels fit in any decor.

In the modern room below, there's a linear fireplace, no mantle, and a contemporary chandelier.... even in this contemporary setting, the room looks best with drapes for three reasons:
1) They frame the window, and draw attention to the view!
2) They make the room feel cozy, and help with sound absorption
3) Best of all, they're functional! For privacy and light control.

In the Summerfield, NC below, we made a huge impact by adding Sherwin Williams Sea Salt paint, a comfortable chenille chair, a mercury glass end table & floor lamp. The room didn't feel complete until we added our custom linen drapes.

These drapes made the room feel more complete for three reasons
1) They draw the eye up, so you appreciate the coffer ceiling.
2) They draw attention to the bay window area.
3) And best of all, they allow room darkening so our client can sleep late!

Linen drapes, a new chair and mercury glass end table, with new wall paint make a big impact!

Window treatments of 2017 have several things in common, they're a fresh clean look, the fabrics are more durable, and the styles are simple - which means timeless!
